Le Champion Sports Events Foundation is taking over the organization of the AMGEN Bredase Singelloop from the Bredase Singelloop Foundation. With the acquisition, the running event gains a new future at Le Champion, which, as a non-profit sports organization, is seizing this opportunity to get even more people moving with this unique urban running event in a new region.
The AMGEN Bredase Singelloop has been a fixture on the national running calendar since 1986 and is characterized by its unique course along the canals and through the historic city center of Breda. The event is deeply rooted in the city and is supported by a large group of committed volunteers, sponsors and spectators.
At the end of November, the volunteer board decided, after 38 years, to stop organizing the Bredase Singelloop. It no longer considers it responsible to continue organizing an event of this size on a volunteer basis in today's world. To ensure the continuity of the Bredase Singelloop, the board actively sought specialized, professional parties that could and would take over the organization of the Bredase Singelloop.
The Bredase Singelloop Foundation entered into discussions with Le Champion Sports Events Foundation. A professional organization that operates from the same values, vision and approach, fitting the character of the Bredase Singelloop. Le Champion is therefore the ideal candidate who, with all its experience and expertise, can sustainably continue the event.
Willem Butz, chairman of the Bredase Singelloop Foundation:
“We are very pleased that Le Champion will continue the Bredase Singelloop. It is a professional organization that wants to make a social impact by getting people moving. The past few weeks have strengthened our confidence that Le Champion will take the Bredase Singelloop to the next level, while preserving its character.”
The Bredase Singelloop continues, on Sunday 4 April 2027
Le Champion already organizes several large-scale running events in the autumn, including the NN Dam tot Damloop in September and the TCS Amsterdam Marathon in October. Therefore, it has been decided to organize the AMGEN Bredase Singelloop in the spring from now on. During this period, there is more room on the running calendar. This gives sufficient time for a careful handover so that the 39th edition of the Bredase Singelloop on Sunday 4 April 2027 can return with full attention and quality.
Aldermen Arnoud van Vliet and Eddie Förster of the Municipality of Breda (events and sports) are pleased that the event will be preserved: “It is very good news that the Singelloop will go ahead. Sports events are enormously important for Breda: they get people moving, bring people together and show how lively our city is. A real running city, which many other visitors also enjoy.”
René Wit, management of Le Champion Sports Events Foundation:
“The AMGEN Bredase Singelloop lies outside our familiar region, but precisely for that reason we see this as a special opportunity.” It is a unique event with a rich history, which has moreover been organized well and professionally for many years. We have great respect for what has been built here and look forward to building on it further together with all those involved.”
Le Champion will work in the coming period together with partners, volunteers, the municipality of Breda and other involved parties on the further development of the 2027 edition. The character of the AMGEN Bredase Singelloop will remain central. Further information about the program will follow at a later date. Registration for the AMGEN Bredase Singelloop 2027 opens on 31 August 2026.
